Ringing the Liberty Bell

  • Nevada State Museum 600 North Carson Street Carson City, Nevada, 89701 United States (map)

The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) have kindly invited us to join them for the annual Ringing of the Liberty Bell!

"As you may know, the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution is committed to promoting the ideals of the American Revolution and the founding of our great country.   To further this goal, the SAR celebrates historical events, and promotes related patriotic events and educational programs for its membership, and the general public.

Since 2011, SAR members have conducted a ceremonial ringing of Nevada's Liberty Bell on each 4th of July, in celebration of the Declaration of Independence. This occurs at the Nevada State Museum, by ringing Nevada's Liberty Bell, at the Nevada State Museum, located at 600 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada.

This program has grown - from simply ringing the bell, to adding the chapter's uniformed Color Guard, and later to also having a narration of The Declaration, and finally, it even included Revolutionary War fife & drum music, provided by the Fifes & Drums of Nevada.

Well, we're doing it all again this year, thanks to the worthy auspices of the Nevada State Museum, directed by Mr. Myron Freedman. The Liberty Bell replica is located in front of the museum, at 600 North Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada.

The ceremony starts with music at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Bell Ringing, and the whole thing will last about 1 hour. The public is welcome, along with their kids and grandkids - and there is no cost! (See the attached announcement)

Our own Battle Born Chapter will be there, and we enjoy sharing this event with the public. Admission is FREE; Revolutionary War attire, or uniform, is welcome, otherwise dress casual and cool. Parking may be found in the lot just north of the museum, on the street, or at the "Nugget" parking lot, a short distance south of the museum on N. Carson St.

The museum will also be open for business, since the 4th of July falls on Tuesday this year.
